Motobécane was founded in France in 1923 and quickly became a major player in the bicycle and moped industry. From the 1950s to the 1970s, the brand dominated the French market with its racing bikes, touring bikes and famous Mobylette mopeds. Faced with competition from Asia, the company filed for bankruptcy in 1981 and was reborn under the name MBK.
