Campagnolo - front wheel quick release, circa 1950
A bicycle wheel quick-release is a mechanism that allows the bicycle wheel to be attached to the frame very quickly and easily, without the need to use tools. The quick-release consists of a metal rod with a thread at the end that attaches to the wheel axle. The quick-release is a relatively recent invention, appearing in the 1920s. It has made the disassembly and reassembly of wheels much easier.
